Since 1989, "Excelsior" has been a regular competitor in the annual Tall Ships' Race.
The Tall Ships' Race is the major festival for youth sail training organisations and attracts competitors from all over the world, with vessels both big and small, new and old. The emphasis is very much on camaraderie and teamwork, rather than all-out competition. From 2002 the races have been organised by Sail Training International.
